Elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation took place on September 17-19, 2021. This is the second election to the Russian parliament, which is going to be held in the annexed Crimea.
On the eve of the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, residents began to issue passports of Russian citizens en masse. The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that granting Russian citizenship to ORDLO residents is a consequence of Ukraine’s alleged “failure to fulfill its obligations under the Minsk agreements.”
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry protested against the approval by the Central Election Commission of Russia of the decision to involve the population in the territories of ORDLO in the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a resolution calling illegal the involvement of residents of the occupied part of Donbas and Crimea in the Russian elections. People’s Deputies also appealed to the international community to recognize this election as illegitimate and impose sanctions on Russia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine strongly protested and condemned the illegal organization and conduct of the Russian State Duma elections on September 17-19, 2021 in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea and the forced involvement of Ukrainian citizens with illegally issued Russian passports in ORDLO.
Ukraine will impose sanctions against participants in the “election process” to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the occupied territories – members of precinct commissions, agitators, candidates, all observers.
