The Ministry of Justice will open special prisons for thieves in law in 2022. This is needed to reduce their influence in ordinary penitentiaries, said Deputy Justice Minister Olena Vysotska.

The official explained that in prison, thieves in law can influence other convicts and they will carry out their orders. And this, in turn, allows thieves to put pressure on the administration through intimidation and blackmail.
It is known that in Ukraine there will be two prisons for thieves in law. The staff of these institutions will undergo psychological training, and the prisons themselves will be equipped with the best means of recording and protection, cameras will be installed on the territory, silencers will be equipped for mobile communication and video recorders will be distributed to employees.
It will be recalled that on June 4, the Rada in the second reading supported the bill of President Volodymyr Zelensky?2513 “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine Concerning Liability for Crimes Committed by the Criminal Community.” The document is aimed at establishing criminal liability for persons who are in the status of “thief in law”, organize “meetings”, or seek help from criminal authorities.
The head of the National Police, Ihor Klymenko, stated that there were 15-25 “thieves in law” in Ukraine. In total, there are about 450 people in the world as thieves.
