The fight for the title of world champion in super heavyweight according to the IBF, WBO, WBA, and IBO between Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk and British Anthony Joshua took place at Tottenham Stadium in London.
Following the results of 12 rounds, Usyk won by a unanimous decision of the judges. The score on the judges’ notes was 117-112, 116-112, and 115-113.
The Ukrainian became the new world heavyweight champion, taking all four titles from Joshua. The world heavyweight champion’s belts have returned to Ukraine for the first time since 2015 when Wladimir Klitschko lost to Tyson Fury.
In addition, Usyk was only the third boxer in history, who managed to become world champion in both the first heavyweight and super heavyweight. Earlier, this peak was conquered by Evander Holyfield and David Haye.
This is Oleksandr Usyk’s 19th fight in the pro ring and his 19th victory. For Joshua it was the 26th fight, he suffered his second defeat. It was reported that the contract for this fight was a rematch in case of Usik’s victory.
