Algeria summoned the French ambassador after the French government pledged to reduce the number of visas available to citizens of Maghreb countries.

The French government’s move comes in response to the North African governments’ refusal to take back illegal immigrants who were returned to their country by the French authorities.
The Algerian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the French ambassador had been summoned “to notify him of an official protest … after the unilateral decision of the French government.”
