Versatile missile. A desert farm where food is grown using saltwater. Pop-up theatres. A hyperloop where passengers feel as if they are traveling in a vacuum at high speed. These are just some of the experiences visitors can enjoy over the next six months at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Since 2013, when Dubai won a plaque in Paris with its presentation, the exhibition has easily been the most talked about event in the UAE.
Indeed, Expo 2020 has become an example for an event not only because of the scale and ambition of the projects and pavilions on display but also because the organizers hope it will be a game-changer for host Dubai.
The event, which kicked off Thursday with a grand opening ceremony, is said to feature more than 200 participating entities, including about 192 countries, and features 60 events. Expectations have grown due to a year-long delay in the opening due to the pandemic.
The fact that the exhibition is moving forward on this scale with “25 million visits” expected, even as travel continues to be difficult after 18 months of closure and postponement, is perhaps an achievement in itself.
A 4.38 square kilometer site in Dubai South near the new Al Maktoum International Airport, the city’s second airport, has been relocated over the past eight years. The focal point is the Al Wasl Plaza, which is dominated by a massive cast steel dome designed by Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill Architecture of the United States.
The permanent structure is 130 meters wide and 67 meters high. It can screen photos both internally and externally and will host the main opening ceremonies of the gallery.
Expo 2020 Dubai has an ambitious goal: to create lasting change in the world.
