The chairman of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan Fumio Kishida plans to hold elections to the lower house of parliament on October 31.

Kishida is almost certain that he will be elected the new Prime Minister of Japan in the parliament on Monday. The LDP-led coalition controls both chambers of the Seimas.
Kisida reportedly told several high-ranking MPs from coalition parties that he intends to dissolve the lower house of parliament on Thursday next week.
The current term of office of the members of the lower house expires in a week. Kishida is expected to announce his plan later Monday afternoon. He is believed to have decided that the election was best held shortly after his government came to power.
Yoshihide Suga’s government in Japan has resigned.
