Thus, it is reported that the Pardon Commission under the President of Ukraine recommended to the Head of State to release or partially reduce the term of imprisonment for 31 convicted servicemen.
“Taking into account the severity of the crimes committed, the term of an actual serving of the sentence, the persons of the convicts, their marital status, behavior before and after the conviction, compensation for damages and elimination of the damage, the opinion of penitentiary authorities and other circumstances, in accordance with paragraph 27 of Article 106 of the Constitution of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky supported the proposal of the Commission and signed a decree pardoning these convicts, ”the press service said.
According to the head of OP Andriy Yermak, such a separate request for military pardon was made for the first time in the recent history of Ukraine.
According to Andriy Gota, the head of the Pardon Commission, persons who did not commit serious crimes were selected during the consideration of the cases. Andriy Gota noted that the pardon, in particular, does not apply to cases involving the military who committed an accident while intoxicated. Cases of those convicted of murder are also not considered. The Chairman of the Commission noted that a psychologist would work with the released persons to work on their combat injuries and help them socialize.
At the same time, Gotha said that the Commission will consider pardons not only for veterans. She was tasked not to wait for pardon requests, but to look for representatives of vulnerable categories among convicts: minors, women with children, people with disabilities, to study each case in detail. We are currently considering pardon applications for convicted juveniles.
In the future, the meetings of the Pardon Commission will be held as the collected information is processed and meetings with convicts are held, the OP said.
In August, Zelensky signed a decree changing the pardon procedure for corrupt officials.
