“A physical clash between Indian border guards and Chinese troops took place 10 days ago after more than 100 Chinese People’s Liberation Army soldiers in the Tawang sector invaded what India considers its own,” the source was quoted as saying.
The fight between them lasted several hours. Reinforcements were sent to the Indian and Chinese troops who took part in it. The incident was resolved and the troops were disbanded after talks between the commanders of the Indian and Chinese units in accordance with established protocols and mechanisms. None of the border guards on either side were injured.
“Their confrontation was due to the fact that Indian and Chinese soldiers patrolled the area in accordance with their perceptions of where the non-demarcated border between the two countries runs. This leads to clashes and confrontations between the military of India and China. The last such incident occurred in the eastern sector of the line of effective control in 2016. At the end of August this year, Chinese soldiers invaded Indian territory in the Barahoti sector in Uttarakhand, where similar minor incidents also occur from time to time, ”the sources said.
The border incident in Tawang came amid preparations by India and China for the 13th round of talks to normalize the situation in another border area, East Ladakh, in the coming days.
A dangerous confrontation between the Indian and Chinese armies in the area was caused by a crash near Lake Pangong-Tso of 250 servicemen of the two countries, which occurred on May 5-6, 2020, and recurred on the night of June 15-16 near the Galvan River and resulted in losses of both parties. In this regard, India and China transferred to Ladakh heavy artillery, tanks, and aircraft, the number of military groups of each of the warring parties was increased to 50 thousand people. After a series of talks at the military and diplomatic levels, India and China in February this year began a mutual gradual withdrawal of troops from the disputed areas on the border.
