The Red Sea International Film Festival launched film screenings and masterclasses as part of a community program to educate Saudi film lovers about acting, directing, and producing.
The program was launched in four neighborhoods of Jeddah, with six shows per day of films including “Kitab Al Shams”, “Baghdad Messi” and “Bekaa” chosen to attract younger viewers.
And the program is not only limited to watching movies. Six directors and three actors from across the kingdom will provide masterclasses for filming a scene in front of a live audience – some of whom will be chosen to participate, as extras or as part of a crew.
Edward Weintraub, artistic director of the festival, said the goal is to make the film industry accessible to people of all ages, specifically targeting Saudi youth to inspire the next generation of filmmakers who would otherwise not have considered a career in the industry.
He said, “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is full of untapped talent, and one of our priorities is to enable our local talents to realize their potential.”
“We have taken the film industry to the streets of Jeddah in an effort to educate, empower and spark interest in young people by giving them the tools to succeed and enhance their talents.
The Red Sea International Film Festival aims to be a pioneer in Saudi Arabia and the world, not only for the festival’s activities, collaborations, and competitions but also for the impact we leave on future generations through our community outreach programs.
The new program is called Cinema Al Hara, which roughly translates to alley or lane, and will run until October 30.
