According to the Minister, from November 1, citizens of at least 10 countries that have been vaccinated against COVID-19, will abolish mandatory quarantine. For now, they will include the United Kingdom, Singapore, Germany, China, and the United States, but over time the list may expand.
Currently, only vaccines approved by the World Health Organization are recognized in the country: CoronaVac, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson.
“I know that this decision is associated with some risk. It is almost certain that when we relax these restrictions, we will see a temporary increase in the number of serious cases,” said Chan-Ocha.
He recalled the devastating blow the epidemic had dealt with Thailand’s economy.
“I do not think that millions of people who depend on the income they receive from tourism, recreation, and entertainment, can allow a new blow in the form of the second lost New Year’s period,” – said the prime minister, adding that if in Thailand will fix the “Delta” strain of the virus, the government is ready to return strict restrictions.
According to the Thai government, last year, when the country was closed to tourists, tourism revenues fell by 82%, or about $ 50 billion. This year, local authorities expect only 100,000 foreign travelers, while before the pandemic the country received 40 million annually.
In addition, Thailand plans to re-allow the sale of alcohol in restaurants and open entertainment establishments by December 1.
As previously reported, earlier this year, Ukrainian tourists in Thailand were warned that in some provinces, the authorities have increased quarantine due to COVID-19.
