During the events dedicated to the memory of the victims of the mass shootings in Babi Yar, President of the State of Israel Yitzhak Herzog was presented with the book “Righteous Among the Nations. Ukraine“, published on the initiative of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine.

“There are about 2.7 thousand names in this book today. I am sure that over time there will be more of them, but less hatred and anti-Semitism. , whose descendants live in all corners of the world – to the Jews, ” Lozhkin said during the presentation of the book to the President of Israel.
The book, as the President of the JCU, said, published the names of all the Ukrainians-Righteous, who today have been awarded the title of Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Complex for saving Jews during the Holocaust.
“In addition to the complete list of the Righteous for each region of Ukraine, we also told individual stories of the salvation of Jews and published photos of the Righteous themselves,” Lozhkin said in detail about the new book.
He also recalled that due to the lack of complete data on the people who saved Jews, many of them were not included in the lists of Yad Vashem and in the book about the Righteous Ukrainians, although in their essence they are the Righteous.
As an example, he told about his friend’s mother, who managed to avoid being shot at Babi Yar and survived the Holocaust thanks to the help of six people whose names she did not know.
“Their names will never be engraved on the Alley of the Righteous in Jerusalem. At the same time, they are also righteous,” Lozhkin said.
“I am sure that over time this list will be replenished, and we will still learn the names of the Righteous, who today are considered nameless,” summed up the President of the EKU.
The book “Righteous Among the Nations. Ukraine” was published by the publishing house “Our Format“. The Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Complex, the Babi Yar Holocaust Memorial Center, and the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress were partners of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine in the publication of the book.
