Mikheil Saakashvili, who is currently in prison in Georgia, said it was not the first attempt to return to the country, but the first almost ended tragically. He stated this in an interview with Mtvari.

“I have been preparing for a long time, it was not the first attempt of my arrival, everything did not go as planned, something was done so that the first attempt almost ended tragically. It was not a business class voyage and not what the media wrote about, ”Saakashvili said.
According to Saakashvili, he did not want to return to Georgia loudly.
“I didn’t take any chances, because in this scenario it would be very easy to shoot, blow up, shoot, and then blame us for everything … I came because I wanted to come, otherwise I just couldn’t, I think it’s a truly critical moment in our history, ”Saakashvili said.
On October 1, Georgian Prime Minister Garibashvili announced that Saakashvili’s third president had been detained in Georgia. Saakashvili arrived in Georgia eight years after emigrating.
After his detention, Saakashvili was placed in the Rustavi colony.
The Ukrainian authorities reacted to this, as Saakashvili has Ukrainian citizenship. The Foreign Ministry invited the head of the Georgian embassy in Ukraine to receive official information on the grounds and circumstances of Saakashvili’s detention. On October 2, Georgia’s Chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine informed the Foreign Ministry about this. Later, the new ambassador did the same.
On October 4, Saakashvili visited a Ukrainian consul in a Georgian penitentiary.
Georgia’s third president, Saakashvili, left Georgia in 2013, and criminal proceedings were immediately instituted against him. Saakashvili was reportedly found guilty by a Tbilisi court of abuse of office and sentenced in absentia to three and six years in prison in two criminal cases. Two more criminal cases under the same articles are reportedly pending in the courts.
