“Two operating ships (minesweepers) will be purchased in the near future. They will not need to be built, they will immediately become part of the Ukrainian Navy, – said the diplomat. – These are modern ships used in the British Navy. They have state-of-the-art weapons … meet all NATO standards. ” According to him, Ukraine will also receive “missile weapons”, which will help the country significantly strengthen its naval power.
In addition, the countries intend to jointly build ships for the needs of the Ukrainian Navy. “Construction of smaller ships will begin in Ukraine and the United Kingdom,” the ambassador said.
Prystaiko reminded that within the framework of joint bilateral cooperation work is planned on the construction of two naval bases. “These will be two completely new ports, which are so lacking in our armed forces and our fleet,” he said. “These are the first two bases that will be built. There are projects, there is a British company that will be the integrator of this project, the work has already begun, “he said, adding that Ukraine will use credit funds to pay for the work.
According to the diplomat, troops will be based in the new ports, training will take place, and staff with families will live. The bases will be built according to NATO standards, the ambassador assured. “One base will be on the Sea of Azov, the other – on the Black Sea,” he said. “We need to do a lot to balance the capabilities of Russia and Ukraine in the Black Sea. But we are not striving for balance, we understand that we can count on the support of our partners and friends – those who are in the Black Sea … We are not going to attack Russia, our task is to protect our coast, “Prystaiko said.
In October last year, Zelensky said that Ukraine had begun building two state-owned Ukrainian naval bases to protect the Black Sea region.
