The initiative was announced by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in a speech he delivered at the Saudi Environment Initiative.
It is estimated that by 2030, 50% of Saudi Arabia’s energy needs will be met by renewable energy sources. At the same time, it is planned to plant billions of trees in the deserts that occupy the vast majority of the country’s territory.
Meanwhile, Salman said that Saudi Arabia, as a member of OPEC, will combat climate change, ensuring stability in the oil market.
It was reported that the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – COP26 – will be held in Glasgow from October 31 to November 12. Agreement is expected to be reached on significant emissions cuts to tackle global warming.
