Kyiv.Ukraine.Ukraine Gate – October 31,2021- Justin Maxwell Stewart was walking the dog in an old Victorian cemetery, not far from the rented house, and in 2015, he noticed an advertisement for the sale of a dilapidated neo-Gothic house, which had been built for the county caretaker.
The intrigued man decided to contact a real estate agent. This decision was the first step towards a massive three-year construction project.
Maxwell Stewart says he got the news of the sale of the old house during the divorce. The idea of buying an abandoned house also seemed attractive for two reasons: firstly, it was a great opportunity to distract from the lawsuits, and secondly, to allow him to live in West London and stay with his 10-year-old son George.
Maxwell Stewart paid $2.48 million for the 1865 home.
The house was destroyed, the man said, and he did not live in it for more than 5 years, and the cost was very high, but for me the uniqueness of this building outweighed the value of real estate in the area.
Maxwell Stewart enlisted the work of architect Simon Gill, who repaired the original residence, designed and executed the accessories, and created the basement. The area of the house, which was 123 square meters, was increased to 497 “square”.
It took almost 2 years to obtain building permits, and work began only in November 2017. The approximate cost of the work ranged from $ 1.65 to $ 2.48 million. As a result, the man paid 3.3 million.
The ground floor significantly increased costs, but allowed to place in the house a wine cellar, swimming pool, sauna and 2 guest bedrooms.
