The main reason for this situation was the rise in price of gas, which is 70% of the cost of production. This was announced by the general director of the Kharkivtsukor association Yuriy Ilchenko, agronews.ua reports.

“At the Pervukhinsky sugar plant at the current gas price, the estimated cost of sugar is 25-26 UAH / kg, and the wholesale price in Ukraine today is 23-24 UAH / kg, which is lower than production costs. And to the cost is added profitability of at least 10% and VAT, “said the sugar manufacturer.
Also, according to him, if earlier in the cost of sugar 55% were the cost of raw materials and its delivery, now only gas is up to 70% of the cost.
“We warn that at this price of gas, the cost of sugar is expected at 30-32 UAH / kg, and the selling price of plants will then be 35-40 UAH / kg. Plus a trade margin, because it is a socially significant product, “Yuriy Ilchenko said.
The expert also warns that this season, out of 34 sugar factories in Ukraine, 29 have earned this year, and 4 have officially refused to start the sugar season. And this trend may continue.
