German Health Minister Jens Span said the pandemic was far from over.
“We are currently experiencing a mass pandemic of the unvaccinated. If more people could afford to be vaccinated, there would be fewer coronavirus patients in the intensive care unit, ”he said.
On Wednesday, authorities reported 2,220 patients in intensive care beds. In addition, 666 people died of coronavirus in Germany in the last week.
Lothar Wheeler, head of the German Disease Control Agency and president of the Robert Koch Institute, called the recent rise in infection rates frightening.
