Kyiv.Ukraine.Ukraine Gate – November 4,2021- More than 40 countries, including Ukraine, agreed to phase out coal-fired power, the dirtiest fuel source, at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, according to The Guardian.
The report said the most heavily used countries, including Canada, Poland, Ukraine and Vietnam, would phase out their use of coal for electricity generation, with larger coal doing so in the 1930s, and smaller companies doing so in the 1940s.
The goal of “sending coal into history” was a major focus for the UK as host of the COP26 summit, which aims to put the world on track to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
The use of coal is also one of the biggest causes of greenhouse gas emissions.
“Today marks a defining moment in our global efforts to tackle climate change, as nations from around the world unite in Glasgow to declare that coal has no role to play in future energy generation. The United Nations Climate Change Conference COP26 began in Glasgow on October 31 and will run until November 12.
