Heavy rains triggered floods on Indonesia’s main island of Java on Thursday, leaving at least 11 people missing.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency said rivers on the slopes of Mount Arjuno overflowed and flooded five villages in the city of Kota Batu in East Java. It is noted that 15 people died and four were later rescued.
Agency chief Ganip Varsito said heavy rains are expected to continue and intensify until February, partly due to weather in La Nina.
Rescuers are still searching for 11 missing, said Ahmad оруorur Rohim, head of the local disaster agency’s emergency department. Efforts to provide assistance were hampered by power outages and blocked roads covered with thick dirt and debris.
Authorities are still collecting information on the damage and possible casualties, Varsito said.
