The Georgian authorities did not warn anyone about his intentions to transport Saakashvili to another prison – no lawyers, no mother, no other relatives.
“Here we can only assume that the Georgian authorities are afraid to say such things in advance, because there may be protests in support of Michael. But it’s all absurd, because a person needs medical care. And he was just taken and brought, no one was told. the mother spent several hours near the Rustavi prison, and she was not allowed to know about it, she was not allowed to see her son, “the parliamentarian said.
She added that Saakashvili was asking to allow him an ombudsman and defenders.
Yasko fears that Saakashvili’s stay in Gldani prison is dangerous for the politician.
At the same time, according to Yasko, about 40,000 people protested in support of Saakashvili in the central Freedom Square in Tbilisi on Monday.
“This rally was convened precisely to demand the transfer of Michael to the hospital. But to a private hospital, where it will be safe. But it was not done. Now people are quite panicked, no one knows what to do. They do not even know where he is. Michael is there. So we are waiting for some information. It is very unsettling, “she continued.
Yasko believes that there is a chance to release the Georgian politician and return him to Ukraine. “There are chances. But we don’t know how tonight will end, what will happen next morning. Because we understand that it is, unfortunately, impossible to look for any logic and protection against Mikheil from the Georgian authorities. What will they do, what will they do? they are ready – it is impossible to predict at all. Because no one could have thought that he would not be transferred to the hospital for 39 days (hunger strike), “she said.
On November 8 , Saakashvili was taken to the G18 prison hospital in the Gldan district of Tbilisi from the Rustavi prison.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls for transferring Saakashvili to a civilian medical institution.
Saakashvili was detained on October 1 in Georgia, where a number of criminal cases have been filed against him. The next day, it became known that Saakashvili had gone on a hunger strike and called himself a political prisoner.
On October 29, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili rejected the possibility of extraditing Saakashvili to Ukraine.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has said she refuses to use the powers she has to pardon Saakashvili.
