The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted a resolution that increases tariffs for heart and lung transplants and improves the access of Ukrainians to these operations.

“The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a decree developed by the Ministry of Health, which changes (increases) tariffs for heart and lung transplants,” the statement said.

It is reported that due to the adopted changes, Ukrainian medical institutions will be able to cover all the actual costs of relevant operations, as well as increase their number and improve quality.
It is noted that to date, tariffs for the heart / lung transplant service have been determined by the Cabinet of Ministers Resolution № 1083 (as amended) from 2019, but the Ministry of Health has initiated their updating in accordance with practical experience in performing such operations. After all, the tariffs should cover all the necessary costs for treatment and rehabilitation of patients and assist medical institutions in the development of this complex area.
According to the adopted changes:
Heart / lung transplantation service or after heart-lung transplantation / heart-lung complex transplantation, including the “donor stage” is now divided into two separate services: heart transplantation and lung transplantation. This is due to differences in conditions that require transplantation, postoperative periods, the need for specific rehabilitation, etc .;
There is a threefold increase in tariffs for heart and lung transplants to UAH 2 million and UAH 2.7 million, respectively, due to the need to cover the actual costs of transplant service providers and the complexity and high cost of the post-transplant period in patients.
“At the same time, the updated tariffs will still be lower than the cost of similar services abroad. Thus, the state used to pay $ 110,000 and $ 140,000, respectively, for a heart and lung transplant operation to Ukrainians abroad (Belarus), ”the Ministry of Health informs.
Such changes will further stimulate and develop the direction of transplantation, increase the availability of appropriate operations and provide assistance to as many Ukrainians as possible who need it.
The brain reminds that transplant operations in Ukraine are performed at the expense of the state budget and are absolutely free for patients.
In addition, it is reported that in 2020, 9 heart transplants were performed in Ukraine – more than in all previous years of independence of Ukraine, and in 2021 (as of October 18) – 22. Also in 2021 for the first time a heart transplant was performed on a child and performed the first lung transplant from a posthumous donor.

Head of the Kidney Transplant Department of the National Institute of Surgery and Transplantology named after OO Shalimova Ruben Zohrabyan reported that more than 150 kidney transplants have already been performed. Previously, the annual number of transplants in Ukraine did not exceed 100-120 operations per year.
In Ukraine, in 2021 it is planned to perform at least 250 operations on organ and tissue transplantation, which is almost 2 times more than last year.
