High cumulus clouds are translucent clouds. They usually consist of pronounced elements (waves, plates) and have a heterogeneous density. Dense areas of gray alternate with lighter, thinner and lighter parts of transparent white. High cumulus clouds usually result from convection in unstable stratified air, as well as due to the gradual ascent of air in front of a cold front.
