The child was diagnosed with picacism, also known as peak, parorexia, allotriophagia, or taste distortion. With this disorder, people have an irresistible desire to eat something unusual and inedible.
The boy’s mother, 32-year-old Marie Buckley, has to watch William eat things like paper, fluff, toys, books and even furniture. He recently ate part of his new crib and gnawed on fluffy mattresses.
Marie is forced to hide inedible items, as well as distract her son during the day. According to his mother, for the past three or six months, William has started eating his diapers every day, especially at night.
“He will also eat carpet fibers, soft toys, a raincoat on his stroller and any fluff or hair. Work continues, I removed all books and soft toys from his room. During the day I can clean up extra things and distract him, but at night it is very difficult, ”says the woman.
William was also diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, global developmental delay and sensory information processing disorder. He has to go to a special school soon.
The mother is concerned not only with the child’s behavior, but also with the reaction of others. She is shocked by the lack of awareness about people with the same problems as her son, and the cruelty of commentators on social networks.
