Kyiv.Ukraine.Ukraine Gate – November 14,2021- The United States has expressed concern about China’s pressure on Taiwan.
On Friday, Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken spoke with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and “expressed concern over China’s continued military, diplomatic and economic pressure on Taiwan,” the statement said.
The conversation took place ahead of a virtual summit of President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Monday night after Washington.
Blinken and Wang discussed preparations for the summit, with the Secretary of State “urging Beijing to engage in a constructive dialogue to resolve the issues around the Taiwan Strait peacefully and in the interests of the Taiwanese people .”
It will be recalled that relations between the world’s two largest economies have deteriorated in part due to the problems of Taiwan’s self-governing democratic territory claimed by Beijing, as well as trade relations, human rights abuses and other issues.
The Chinese military last month carried out a record number of incursions into the island’s air defense zone.
Washington has repeatedly stated its support for Taiwan in the event of Chinese aggression
