As explained by Mukstein, experts insist on the need to take further measures to combat the spread of coronavirus, these recommendations have already been discussed with the authorities of the country and the federal states. He pointed to the “dramatic situation in the intensive care unit” and stressed the need to reduce the number of contacts between people. According to Mukstein, the new restrictions may be adopted on Wednesday, November 17.
The minister added that the restrictions will apply from 22:00, so restaurants will not be able to continue night activities during this period. In addition, the authorities are considering tightening the requirements for wearing FFP2 respirators indoors, increasing the number of PCR tests and introducing new restrictions on activities, the head of the department said.
“We have to increase the level of vaccination. It is at a shamefully low level, ”said Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg. He estimates that the lockdown will affect about 2 million Austrian citizens, which is about a third of the country’s population.
