According to him, there is a big problem in Ukraine with the disposal of disposable masks and other medical waste.
It is better to use reusable masks to protect against coronavirus
As noted by the former People’s Deputy of Ukraine, the former acting Chairman of the State Ecological Inspectorate Yegor Firsov on the air of the Ukraine 24 channel, reusable masks are more ecological. According to him, disposable – decompose for a long time.
“Responsible citizens who understand what COVID-19 is, are able to provide themselves with masks, it’s easy. Homemade masks can be used, and I would recommend using reusable masks, because disposable are very environmentally friendly. They will decompose for a long time, in a hundred years they will lie, if they are not reworked, “he said.
According to Firsov, Ukraine has a big problem with the disposal of disposable masks and other medical waste.
“One bed-place generates from 2 to 10 kg of garbage. It’s not just masks, it’s syringes, pills, what is used when taking blood, and so on. It all falls into the class of particularly dangerous (garbage – ed.), it can be infected with coronavirus, AIDS, tuberculosis, etc. What is the problem – their disposal? They are generated in tons and no one disposes of them. “The Ministry of Ecology urgently needs to check the recyclers who have licenses and develop a plan, because in six months, in a year we will get thousands of illegal medical waste dumps,” he said.
