At its sitting on Tuesday, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the draft law № 5219 on critical infrastructure as a whole. The decision was supported by 268 people’s deputies .

Thus, the law provides, in particular, for the establishment of an authorized body in the field of critical infrastructure protection – the National Commission for Critical Infrastructure Protection, as well as the Register of Critical Infrastructure.
The draft law establishes the principles of state policy in the field of critical infrastructure and defines at the legislative level a number of concepts, including: “critical infrastructure security”, “vital functions”, “critical infrastructure protection”, “criticality category (criteria) of critical infrastructure”, “Crisis situation”, “critical infrastructure”, “national system of critical infrastructure protection”, “unauthorized intervention”, etc.
The document provides for parliamentary control over the protection of critical infrastructure. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine shall exercise control over the observance of the legislation in the implementation of measures to ensure the protection of critical infrastructure in accordance with the procedure established by the Constitution of Ukraine.
The law also provides for public oversight of critical infrastructure protection.
