Kyiv،Ukraine،Ukraine Gate – November 18,2021- British and Australian scientists say masks have proven to be the most effective means of fighting the epidemic.
The research was conducted by scientists from the University of Edinburgh and one of the most prestigious universities in Australia, Monash University. They have studied the effectiveness of various quarantine restrictions during a pandemic. The results of the study were published in The BMJ (British Medical Journal), one of the world’s oldest general medical journals.
According to the study, wearing a mask is the most effective means in combating the Corona virus. Masks have been reported to reduce the likelihood of disease by 53%, making them more effective with physical distance (only 25%) and regular hand washing. The researchers also noted the effectiveness of vaccination, but noted difficulties in spreading vaccines, especially in poor countries.
“We now know that the risk of contracting the disease is reduced if you wear a mask. You must also maintain a physical distance, wash your hands regularly and cover yourself when coughing. We need to do all this and not rely solely on vaccination per se,” said David Nabarro, the envoy The World Health Organization’s Special on the Coronavirus.
The media notes that wearing masks was mandatory in many countries at the beginning of the pandemic, but almost two years later some countries lifted the restriction. In particular, in the Netherlands, wearing a mask became mandatory again only this month, while in Hungary, despite a sharp increase in the number of diseases, there are no restrictions on masks.
As of the morning of November 18, more than 255 million cases of coronavirus infection had been registered in the world, and more than 231.7 million people had recovered.
