According to Captain Brad Little, a spokesman for the base, the blast occurred at about 9 a.m. Pacific time in an unused barracks building.
According to preliminary information, an explosion of domestic gas was heard in the building of the barracks, where repair works are currently being carried out. There was a partial collapse of the building.
Several ambulances were sent to the scene, including an ambulance with an intensive care unit.
A statement to the CBC said that six victims had been treated at the military unit’s medical unit, and three more had been taken to hospital in stable condition.
One patient in serious condition was taken to hospital by helicopter.
The official cause of the explosion has not yet been disclosed.
At the same time, Acting Commander Lt. Col. Mike Juliet said the blast occurred in a residential building that was under repair and is now badly damaged.
