kyiv.Ukraine.Ukraine Gate – November 20,2021- Ukraine must continue to implement reforms that, sooner or later, will ensure its accession to NATO, despite the fact that today there is no political consensus in the Alliance on the membership of our country.
This came during a visit by Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov to Washington on Friday.
“The decision to join Ukraine in NATO can only be made by consensus of the Allies, and it will be a political decision,” said the Minister of Defense.
According to him, today such a political decision is not on the agenda of the Allies.
“But this does not mean that we should forget about the provisions of the Constitution of Ukraine, that our goal and task is to join NATO – and not just for the sake of the security component. NATO is not only a military alliance, it is a question of development of democracy, economy, humanitarian issues, “Reznikov stressed.
Therefore, according to him, Ukraine’s task is to carry out its reforms in order to be de facto ready for membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
“And sooner or later a political decision will be made,” Reznikov added.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov held several important meetings in Washington on November 18-19 with the leadership of the Pentagon, the US State Department, as well as in the US Congress. In particular, the possibilities of strengthening the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States, as well as the practical application of mechanisms to support the Ukrainian state were discussed.
