kyiv.Ukraine.Ukraine Gate – November 28,2021- The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said the new coronavirus strain of Omicron may be more resistant to vaccines and spread faster.
Therefore, CDC experts recommend avoiding travel to areas where cases of a new strain have been recorded, and expanding testing and contact tracing of patients with COVID-19.
EU countries are advised to consider the possibility of revaccination of persons over 40 in order to protect the most vulnerable categories of people. Then vaccinate adults over the age of 18 at least six months after completing the first course of vaccination to increase protection against infection due to decreased immunity. This could potentially reduce transmission of the virus in the population and prevent additional hospitalizations and deaths among patients.
On November 26, the World Health Organization reportedly named the new coronavirus strain found in South Africa, Omicron. According to preliminary data, this option may be more dangerous than the previous ones.
On November 26, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the EU intends to suspend flights with the countries of southern Africa due to a new dangerous strain.
