It is noted that people who have been traveling to South Africa for the past two weeks are likely to be infected. Additional tests are now underway to make sure it is Omicron.
All persons suspected of having a new strain of coronavirus and the people they have been in contact with are in isolation.
France is experiencing the fifth wave of coronavirus. On Sunday, more than 31.6 thousand positive cases of COVID-19 were recorded, and the number of patients in intensive care units increased sharply over the past day.
French authorities have also suspended all flights from South Africa until at least December 1 and tightened protocols for people coming from the neighboring overseas regions of Reunion and Mayotte, the health ministry said.
The World Health Organization reportedly named a new strain of coronavirus found in South Africa on November 26, Omicron. According to preliminary data, this option may be more dangerous than others.
On November 26, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU intends to suspend flights to South Africa due to a new dangerous strain.
Some states have already announced the termination of flights to the region. The US administration will suspend the reception of visitors from South Africa and seven neighboring countries from tomorrow.
The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has said that the new strain of coronavirus Omicron may be more resistant to vaccines and spread faster.
