International Civil Aviation Day
On this day in 1944, delegates from 52 countries that flew to the United States for the International Civil Aviation Convention signed the Convention on International Civil Aviation, or the Chicago Convention. For the first time, the International Civil Aviation Day was celebrated on the 50th anniversary of the convention. In 1996, the holiday became officially established by the UN General Assembly.
Remembrance Day of the Great Martyr Catherine
The girls pray to the Great Martyr Catherine the most, because it is believed that the holiday helps them to get married successfully. She was born into the family of the ruler of Alexandria. The girl was not only beautiful, but also a lively mind. At the age of 17, she said that she would agree to marry only someone who surpassed her in beauty, intelligence and virtue. Many young men sought her hand, but no one was able to fulfill the condition.
One day an old man came to Catherine and showed her the icon of the Virgin Mary with the little Jesus in her arms. The girl became interested and she asked to tell her about Christianity. Over time, Catherine lost faith in her heart and began to spread the teachings among the people. For her fascination with Christ, she was captured and then executed.
