Refusal to eat meat is not the best way to affect the human body.
Abandonment of meat in favor of a vegetarian diet is now very popular. Some do it for ethical reasons, some – for taste, and some – “for health”. Scientists still do not agree on how important the latter reason is, because the unequivocal harm of meat and the unconditional benefit of vegetarianism – have not been scientifically proven. Whether to eat meat or not is up to you , and we will tell you how it will affect your body .

Let’s start with the pros. Unlike animal food, plant food does not cause autointoxication, ie does not poison the human body with decomposition products during digestion. In general, when eating meat, the load on the gastrointestinal tract is much greater than when eating plant products, so after a plate of roast or juicy steak, you may feel heaviness in the stomach. Accordingly, when most of your diet is plant foods – your digestive system feels much better.
In addition, studies show that vegetarians are less likely to suffer from hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The risk of obesity and coronary heart disease is reduced. Another plus – plant products, unlike animal, do not contribute to the development of atherosclerosis, because they do not have atherogenic properties.
If the advantages listed above have made you think about switching to a plant-based diet, keep in mind that building a balanced diet without the use of animal products will be much more difficult. The first problem faced by people who have decided to give up meat is protein deficiency. The fact is that animal proteins are complete (they contain all 12 essential amino acids that our body cannot produce on its own), and vegetable proteins are not. That is, eating a portion of chicken fillet, you get all 12 amino acids at once. To get the same set of plant foods, you have to combine several products at once.
No less significant disadvantage of complete rejection of meat – an increased risk of iron deficiency. The fact is that animal products contain heme iron, which is better absorbed than iron from plant products (15-35% vs. 2-20%).
Other “side effects” of giving up meat include a deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids. But this is not scary, because with a competent approach to diet planning, a lack of these substances can be avoided. If you do not eat meat, but eat fish and seafood – nothing to worry about. If these foods are not in your diet, try to add more nuts, seeds, vegetable and linseed oil and avocado.
