The WHO said Omicron has been found in 63 countries. These include the United States, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Israel, Russia, Turkey and Germany.
At the same time, the WHO stressed that Omicron is spreading faster than Delta. It is also “capable of reducing the effectiveness of already developed vaccines against COVID-19”.
“However, Omicron is not as dangerous as Delta,” the organization said.

A new strain of coronavirus, B.1.1.529, was discovered in South Africa in November. On November 26, the World Health Organization named the strain the Greek letter Omicron.
