Sometimes honey can be dangerous to human health.
We often replace sugar with honey, add it to tea to treat and prevent colds, use in many recipes. But while the product is considered beneficial, there are health risks to which we may be exposed. What can excess honey lead to, and how will it affect the body?
Elevated blood sugar
Although honey is considered a substitute for regular sugar, it should not be used in the diet constantly. Constant consumption of honey can increase the level of hemoglobin A1C, which significantly increases the risk of diabetes .

Studies have shown that honey can have the same effect as regular table sugar or sweet syrup with a high fructose content. In some cases, honey is not considered dangerous even for people with diabetes, but in the presence of complications or to prevent them, it is best to consult a doctor.
Allergy
Allergy to honey is not so common, but it can be easily triggered if you do not control the amount of product used. Honey can be allergic to those who do not tolerate pollen, contact allergen is propolis – a substance used by bees during the construction of honeycombs.
Be careful: allergy to honey can occur not only during meals, but also in any contact with the product.
Poisoning
Natural honey contains bacteria (yeast, mold, which are formed from dust, air, dirt and pollen). Despite the fact that honey has antimicrobial properties and in most cases does not cause discomfort, carefully and attentively approach its purchase. Harmful microbes that have entered the product through dust, handling and storage containers can be harmful. Therefore, if you drink too much honey in one go, poisoning can occur.
Caries and other diseases of the oral cavity
One of the most important rules – be sure to rinse your mouth after honey. Due to the sticky consistency, sugar stays on the teeth longer and leads to caries. Caries most often develops in children, especially if honey is a flavoring in sweets, rather than a pure product. It is also possible to destroy the enamel, which leads to the appearance of white spots on the surface of the teeth.
Weight set
If the amount of honey consumed is not normalized, then, most likely, you will gain extra pounds, so when compiling diets, its specific dosage is calculated. The reason for this is the high content of calories, sugar and carbohydrates. The reverse process can be only when mixing warm water, honey and lemon (this is the combination found in various diets).
Low blood pressure
Honey is a product that can control blood pressure. Excess can lead to low blood pressure and hypotension (a decrease of more than 20% from normal). In the long run, this can affect the heart.
Problems with the digestive system
In small quantities, honey is unlikely to have a negative effect, but its large amount leads to deterioration of the digestive system. High fructose disrupts the gastrointestinal tract, which can lead to indigestion, stomach ulcers, hemorrhoids, cramps, bloating and diarrhea.
Children’s diseases
Experts do not recommend using it to pregnant women, preschool children and breastfeeding mothers. Even a small amount of product can adversely affect a child’s health. A frequent consequence is the development of botulism. It’s all about the spores of Clostridium botulinum bacteria, which infect babies from birth to 12 months and spread quickly. Pediatric botulism can lead to impaired motor and autonomic functions in infants. Symptoms may also include drooping eyelids, respiratory failure, lethargy, constipation and crying.
