The death toll from a bomb blast on Saturday at a restaurant in Beni, North Kivu, in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has risen to five. This was reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP) with reference to the provincial authorities .

According to him, 13 people were injured in the incident. According to AFP, the authorities in the region blame the blast on members of the Alliance of Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorist group.
Earlier, the Associated Press reported on the three dead. An investigation is underway. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.

North Kivu has been under siege since May 6 by a decree imposed by DRC President Felix Chisekedi over a deteriorating security situation. By order of the head of state, the civilian administration in North Kivu was replaced by a military one. A similar regime is in place in the neighboring province of Ituri.
