The film “This Rain Will Never End” by Ukrainian documentary filmmaker Alina Gorlova won the “Best Full-Length Documentary” award at the Festival dei Popoli Film Festival in Florence, Italy. This was reported on the film festival’s Facebook page.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Festival dei Popoli – like many events this year – went online.
” This Rain Will Never End” was created in co-production of Ukraine, Latvia, Germany and Qatar.
The film tells the story of 20-year-old Andriy Suleiman and his family, who fled the war in Syria, but ended up in Ukraine, where a military conflict also began. In Ukraine, Andrey becomes a Red Cross volunteer. The guy’s father soon dies, and Andrei decides to bury his body in Syria.
The previous film by Alina Gorlova – “No obvious manifestations” about the struggle of a woman-veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war with post-traumatic stress disorder, received 4 awards at the international festival DocuDays UA in 2017, the award “for an outstanding Eastern European picture” of the international competition of the festival in Leipzig “DOK Leipzig “In 2018 and was nominated for the prize of the Ukrainian Film Academy” Gold of Dzyga “for the best documentary in 2019.
