High blood pressure is considered when it is characterized by values of 140 to 90 or higher. However, do not worry if your figure balances at 130. Healthy blood pressure should be 120 to 80 – any values above this threshold can be classified as elevated.
Talking about factors that can help prevent or reduce high blood pressure, the National Health Service has put a healthy diet first. Citing research, experts say that one of the natural fighters against hypertension is cranberry juice.
In particular, the journal Hypertension published data from a study involving dozens of people over the age of 51. Some of the volunteers were given cranberry juice, and others were given a placebo drink of the same color and calories. The experiment lasted eight weeks. Participants’ blood pressure readings were recorded before, during and after the trial period.
Eventually, it was found that diastolic blood pressure was significantly lower in the group of people who drank cranberry juice (compared with the group who took papier-mâché). Diastolic blood pressure in the cranberry juice group decreased from 73.9 (baseline) to 68.6 (eight weeks later). Systolic blood pressure in the group of people who drank cranberry juice also decreased from the initial parameter of 121.9 mm to 118.6.
Participants who drank placebo did not show changes in blood pressure compared to baseline.
