The euro has been a symbol of the European Union’s economic success for 20 years. This was stated by President of the European Council Charles Michel .

He said the euro had proved its resilience as an international currency, in particular by maintaining confidence in the difficult times of the crisis caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the joint statement of the eurozone finance ministers on this issue, the unification of the national currency of 12 countries into a single unit of payment has become an unprecedented financial transaction in history. They reminded that 20 years ago the European Central Bank prepared more than 15 billion banknotes and about 52 billion coins.
The euro area has spread to 19 EU countries and is expanding. The euro remains very popular – according to opinion polls, about 80% of EU citizens believe that its introduction has been useful for everyday life.
