Remembrance Day of the Holy Martyr Ignatius the Theologian
He accepted death for Jesus Christ and thus saved other Christians from execution.
Legend has it that as a child Ignatius saw the Savior. After this meeting, the little boy began to pray incessantly, glorifying his name in all his speeches. After some time he became a disciple of John the Theologian, and in adulthood took the place of Bishop of Antioch. In each of his sermons, he strengthened the souls of the faithful by urging them not to be afraid of death from the Gentiles.
After the emperor Trajan defeated the Scythians, he ordered sacrifices to be made to the pagan gods. Ignatius refused to obey this order, for which he was sent to Rome to be executed there in the circus arena.
The saint’s body was torn to pieces by wild beasts in the circus arena, but his heart remained intact. Eyewitnesses claimed that there was an inscription “Jesus Christ” on the inside.
