It is noted that after the vaccination in late January, there will be three rounds of additional immunization of children under 6 years of age with oral polio vaccine (OPV).
“Polio threatens a huge number of unvaccinated and incompletely vaccinated children with incurable paralysis and even death. The only and unalterable protection against the disease is vaccination. I urge parents to immediately check that they have vaccinated their children. If there is a violation of the vaccination schedule or missed vaccinations, you need to see a pediatrician or family doctor and get vaccinated, “- said Chief State Sanitary Doctor Igor Kuzin.
Parents of children aged 6 months to 6 years who have missed one or both vaccinations are advised by the Ministry of Health to consult a pediatrician or family doctor for protection against polio.

Polio is an acute infectious disease. Poliovirus is spread from person to person through feces and saliva, most often through dirty hands, infected food and water.
Every unvaccinated child and adult can get polio. But children under the age of five are most susceptible to the polio virus. Therefore, they receive their first vaccination in the first months of life.
Symptoms: In most cases, the disease first goes unnoticed, which worsens the patient’s chances of recovery, then there are signs that are different in nature, depending on the form of the virus. The incubation period of the disease is 2–35 days, more often 7–14 days.
