The head of the company Kenichiro Yoshida announced his intention to enter the electric car market at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. “We are considering launching commercial production of Sony electric vehicles,” Yosida was quoted as saying by The Verge.

At CES in 2020, Sony introduced a prototype electric car Vision-S. In December of the same year, the car was tested for the first time on European roads, and in April Sony conducted a test drive using remote control via 5G.
Now the company has announced the “beginning of a new phase in the development of Vision-S”. At the event, Sony presented a prototype of a new electric car – Vision-S 02. Yoshida stressed that the priority for the company is safety: the prototype is equipped with 40 sensors to support it, writes TechCrunch.
Entertainment will be available in the lounge, including an audio system and video games via a remote connection to the PlayStation.
With the new division, called Sony Mobility Inc., the company will “explore the possibilities of entering the car market.” Sony Mobility will “take full advantage of artificial intelligence and robotics,” according to a press release.
