According to the CPC, 95.4% of new infections in the week ending January 1 were caused by the omicron variant. The remaining 4.6% fell on the “delta” option.
In the week before, in the period before December 25, the omicron accounted for 77% of infections, the delta – 22.8%.

The option, first announced by South Africa last month, is spreading rapidly everywhere, leading to widespread restrictions.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of a “tsunami” of infections caused by Delta and Omicron strains that could hit health systems.
