There are many legends associated with the Orthodox Christmas. It is known that shepherds were the first to come to worship the newborn Son of God. Then the Magi brought him gifts, among which were gold, frankincense and myrrh. These sages have long awaited the birth of the King of the World, and the Star of Bethlehem told them exactly where he would be born.

In turn, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Epiphanius congratulated Ukrainians on the coming Christmas.
“The Nativity of Christ unites us all in a common sense of love and gratitude to the Lord for all His good deeds. May the Lord give us the strength and wisdom to maintain unity. And may the light of the Nativity of Christ dispel anxieties and sorrows, filling hearts with new joy. Christ was born! Let us glorify Him! ”The metropolitan wrote.

And after the Orthodox Christmas, the 12-day holidays begin. They are accompanied by folk festivals in honor of the birth of the Son of God. The Slavs used to run a nativity scene, sing carols and wish everyone well for the whole year. However, during the period of coronavirus restrictions, which begin on January 8, these festivities are likely to be limited in number.
