Enforcement officers had already arrested 1,925 protesters in the Kazakh city of Almaty on January 13.
According to the Almaty commandant’s office, 38 firearms and 1,486 ammunition were seized from the detainees.
Also, for the past 24hrs, the police received only 961 reports. The commandant’s call center received 215 signals from citizens demanding an immediate response.
As Ukrinform reported, earlier the President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Zhomart Tokayev stated that an organized withdrawal of the CSTO “peacekeeping contingent” would begin on January 13 .
Rallies against the sharp rise in liquefied gas prices began in Kazakhstan on January 2 in Zhanaozen (a city in the Mangistau region in the west). They escalated into mass protests, despite the resignation of the government and the announcement of lower gas prices.
Authorities in Kazakhstan have called on the Collective Security Treaty Organization to help quell the protests. The CSTO has officially confirmed the arrival of a Russian military contingent and its allies in Kazakhstan.
On January 7, the President of Kazakhstan ordered to open fire on the protesters without warning .
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan announced the detention of 9,900 people as of January 11.
On January 12, President Tokayev lifted the state of emergency in some regions ahead of schedule .
