Kyiv.Ukraine.Ukraine Gate-January 13 ,2022-EU foreign ministers will hold an informal meeting in Brest, France today to discuss key foreign policy issues, including the security situation around Ukraine, the prospects of the Eastern Partnership program and the future of the EU’s Strategic Compass.
An overview of the agenda of the meeting of foreign ministers has been published on the website of the French Presidency of the Council of the EU.
“EU foreign ministers will discuss international issues at a meeting chaired by EU High Representative / European Commission Vice President Josep Borrell… Ministers will discuss the security situation in the EU’s Eastern Neighborhood, particularly in Ukraine and Belarus. In development of the decisions of the last meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, where member states reaffirmed their commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as solidarity with Belarusian civil society, ministers will assess the current security environment, “the statement said.
One of the main issues of the meeting will discuss in-depth strategic compass of the EU on the eve of this document at the level of Heads of State and Government of the European Union in March. The document will outline current challenges in the field of European security and directions for the development of EU defense and security policy for the next 10 years.

Other important issues of the meeting are consideration of ways to establish a more balanced relationship between the EU and China, strengthening cooperation between the EU and the African Union. As you know, informal meetings of foreign ministers, the so-called “Gymnich”, have been held in the EU since 1974. They provide an opportunity for informal, open and strategic discussion of the most important foreign policy issues and priorities of the EU in this area
