As noted, the accounting of antibiotics will allow:
- see how many drugs (and which ones) doctors prescribe to patients in inpatient departments;
- assess the justification of such appointments;
- ensure control of nosocomial infections;
- reduce the length of stay of patients in hospital.
According to the Ministry of Health, Ukraine is gradually preparing for the introduction of electronic prescription drugs, which is scheduled to start in April 2022.
To receive antibiotics, the patient should contact their doctor, who will prescribe an electronic health system (EHS).
The doctor also provides the patient with a prescription number and information about the drug, then the patient should contact the pharmacy connected to the EHR and provide the prescription number. The pharmacist will see on this number what the doctor has prescribed and will be able to release the medication.
The Ministry of Health does not know how many antimicrobial drugs Ukrainians actually take, but there is an analysis of trends. According to him, in 2020 the total volume of all sales and purchases of such drugs exceeded UAH 6.4 billion. This is 40% more than in 2018. Sales of such drugs in pharmacies also increased: from UAH 3.26 billion in 2018 to UAH 4.36 billion in 2020.
In November 2020, the price of domestic antibiotics was UAH 18.43 per 10 tablets / capsules, and in November 2021 they were already UAH 20.23 per 10 tablets / capsules (+ 9.8%).
Antipyretic and analgesic drugs of domestic production in November cost UAH 12.45 per 10 tablets, and in November 2020 – UAH 10.68 per 10 tablets (+ 16.6%).
