The death of Argentine footballer Diego Maradona, made the Pope Francis praying for his soul. This was reported by Vatican News with reference to the statement of the press service of the Holy See.
“Pope Francis is aware of Diego Maradona’s death, remembering with warmth the meeting with him and praying how he did in the last days when he learned about the footballer’s health,” said Matteo Bruni, director of the press center.
Diego Maradona died on November 25 at the age of 60. The athlete died of a heart attack at his home in the San Andres district of Tigre, where he was recovering from surgery.
In late October, Maradona was isolated after contact with a man infected with the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. In early November, Maradona was hospitalized with signs of anemia and dehydration in a clinic in the suburbs of Buenos Aires. The footballer felt bad during the celebration of his 60th birthday. Doctors later found a subdural hematoma (hemorrhage) in Maradona’s brain. He underwent an operation, which he successfully underwent.
Maradona played for the Argentine national team from 1977 to 1994. In 91 meetings for the national team, he scored 34 goals. In 1986, Maradona became world champion, in 1990 he won a silver medal at the World Cup.
