Do you need snacks at all? This question is difficult to answer unequivocally, because each of us lives in his individual rhythm: we wake up and fall asleep at different times, engage in different activities, work and rest. All these factors are directly related to what, in what quantities and how many times we eat. In addition, adherence to a certain diet may also impose restrictions – if you observe an interval fast and eat only for eight hours, you will simply never have a snack.
First of all, nutritionists recommend focusing on your own needs. If you usually eat three times a day, feel good and do not feel painful hunger between meals, you definitely do not need snacks – the body understands how much food it can handle and will not ask for more.
If you constantly want to eat in the presence of the same three meals a day, most likely, these meals are not enough. A strong feeling of hunger, in addition, significantly increases the risk of overeating and weight gain. Try never to bring yourself to the state of “I can eat an elephant” – you may not eat an elephant, but an extra portion at dinner – easily.
If your body still needs a snack, you should follow a few rules. First of all, it should be noted that a snack is not a complete meal. It is needed to satisfy hunger a little and allow you to reach lunch or dinner. You should not eat a lot during a snack, nor should you choose foods that are rich in fast carbohydrates (sweets, pastries, sweet drinks) – they will provoke a sharp jump in blood sugar, and hunger will soon return with redoubled force.
For a snack, choose high-fat nuts and seeds, cheese, Greek yogurt, avocado or hummus. This food will not give a high carbohydrate load on the body, give strength, increase concentration and efficiency and certainly will not allow you to remember hunger before the next meal.
